It’s all in the details…

We have been working a lot with drapery and thought we’d share our favorite ways of pleating. Scroll down to learn more about the different styles we’ve picked. It’s never to late to change-up or update those draperies! Feel free to call us or come and talk with a designer about which style is a good fit for you.

 Pinch Pleat

This is an example of a basic pinch pleat. Notice the single pinch towards the top of the drapery. This makes a nice reverse triangle shape. Pinch pleat is a nice casual and classic way to hang curtains. This pleat fits into casual settings and some transitional or contemporary formal settings.

Tripple Pinch Pleat

This is an upgraded version of the classic pinch pleat. You can see that the reversed triangle shape has been sectioned into three. This dresses up the drapes and gives a romantic detail to the room. The tripple pinch pleat fits well in formal settings and some casual contemporary or transitional rooms.

French Pleat

The french pleat is a style that can fit into a casual or dressy space. It all depends on what fabric is used. The design of the pinch at the very top of the drape that flairs out gives a great shape. Another classic design that can fit anywhere.

Inverted Box Pleat

This pleat gives a clean, crisp image. The inverted box pleat is a more contemporary style that fits in modern and transitional rooms. A good non-feminine way to add detail.

Goblet Pleat

Goblet pleats are extravagant but can be very tasteful when done right. This pleat is pinched towards the top of the drapery and flairs out to create a goblet type shape. This type of pleat works well in formal settings, eclectic, traditional and some transitional settings.

Natural Accent

Come take a look at our newest natural fiber Seagrass, Sisal and Jute rugs. The neutral color tone is a good way to tie in a setting and bring together color. The things that all of these rugs have in common is that they are sturdy and hard-wearing.

Scroll down to learn more about each type of natural fiber rug. Come visit us to see all of the different weaves that are in stock.

Seagrass

A Seagrass rug is grass-grown in open wetlands in asia. The crop is harvested and woven. These natural fiber rugs generally do not absorb liquids or dirt. This makes them very stain resistant and easy to clean.

Sisal

Sisal comes from the plant Agave Sisilana and is the hardest fiber of the group. It is an agave that yields a stiff fibre traditionally used in making twine, rope and also dart boards. Sisal is stain resistant, flame retardant and absorbs sound. It also does not attract dust thanks to its natural anti-static electricity properties.

Jute

Jute is the softest fiber of the group. Its made from one of the most organic & natural rug-making fibers available. Jute, a cousin to the bamboo and the hemp plants, is a fibrous vegetable plant that grows in warm, moist climates of the delta formed by the Ganges and Bramhaputra rivers in eastern India and Bangladesh. Strong and sturdy, jute fibers are used for making ropes, burlap, prayer rugs, area rugs and clothing.

Stone Counter Tops

We have a lot of custom projects that include stone counter top detail. Before committing to a countertop make sure that it fits with your lifestyle! Below are the best stones used for countertops.

Granite

The main minerals in granite are quartz, feldspar, hornblende, and mica.  These minerals are extremely hard, making granite one of the hardest materials found in nature, second only to diamond. This is a great material for families because of how hard the stone is. It resists scratching, chipping, and discoloration due to heat.  It can be used in virtually any application in your home, including kitchens, baths, bars, and fireplaces.

Granite is a natural product so there is an endless supply of colors and patterning. Some have small crystals evenly placed throughout the slab, some display a movement pattern and others have large crystallization patterns.

Granite now comes in several different finishes, including, polished, honed, leathered, antiqued, flamed, and brushed.

Marble

Unlike granite, marble is composed of calcite, making it relatively soft.  Pure marble is almost entirely white though it can vary in color from white to black.  Impurities such as silica, iron oxide and graphite give it its characteristic rich veining, clouding and color.

Marble is best used in bathrooms and fireplaces. Due to the softness of the stone it usually isn’t used in kitchens. Marble scratches and chips easily. A stone best used for decor purposes.¬†It can be polished to a brilliant shine, or honed for a satin look.

Quartz (Engineered stone)

Engineered stone is 93% quartz material, with the remainder being a mix of resin, glass, dyes, etc.¬† It is a manufactured product that is very hard, and resists scratching, chipping, and staining. Much like granite it’s another good candidate for kitchen work.

Quartz has no outdoor susceptibility to UV light. Because it is engineered the patterning is consistent throughout the slab. Engineered quartz comes in polished and honed finishes.

A popular style of quartz is Silestone, a product by Costentino of Spain. Silestone offers a contemporary color selection, built-in Microban protection for food preparation safety and a 10-year warranty. Silestone is also known for its line of recycled-pigment quartz countertops. (see above picture for example)

Soapstone

Soapstone is comprised of several minerals including talc, chlorite, dolomite and magnetite, giving it a soft feeling to the touch. It has a unique soft color with light flowing veins. When cut, soapstone will oxidize from a light color to a darker one.

Soapstone is a soft stone. Like marble it is susceptible to scratching. Soapstone is valued for its “old world,” image and used mostly in bathrooms, fireplaces and bars and kitchens that are not roughly used.

There are other common stones like limestone, travertine and onyx that carry the same look as the above stones. These however are much softer and are generally unsuitable for countertops. These are better used for accent areas.
